Interesting Bit of Legislative History – McCarran Walter Act of 1952
Note: McCarran and Walter were Democrats. This act was created in 1952 and used by Carter in 1979
Trump was recently severely criticized for suggesting that the U.S. should limit or temporarily suspend the immigration of certain ethnic groups, nationalities, and even people of certain religions (Muslims). The criticisms condemned such a suggestion as, among other things, being “Un-American,” dumb, stupid, reckless, dangerous and racist.
Congressmen and Senators swore that they would never allow such legislation, and Obama called such a prohibition on immigration unconstitutional. A bit hypocritical on his part in my humble opinion based on how he has used executive orders. Reference: Wikipedia; Executive order
It seems that the selective immigration ban is already law and has been applied on several occasions.
Known as the McCarran-Walter Act, the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952 allows for the “Suspension of entry or imposition of restrictions by president (something which we haven’t had for the past seven and a half years).
Whenever the president finds that the entry of aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, the president may, by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or non-immigrants or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.”

The act was utilized by Jimmy Carter, no less, in 1979 to keep Iranians out of the United States , but he actually did more. He made all Iranian students already here check in, and then he deported a bunch. Seven thousand were found in violation of their visas, 15,000 Iranians were forced to leave the United States in 1979. You won’t hear a word about this from the liberal media, propaganda machine.
It is of note that the act requires that an applicant for immigration must be of good moral character and “attached to the principles of the Constitution.”
So while I am not a Trump supporter, more for his bully tactics, rudeness, and his history, HOWEVER calling this man a racist without applying it to Carter and others is very dishonest.
But then when has our news media and popular entertainers ever been honest or at least informed??

That law might be used to exclude persons (both Muslims and non-Muslims) who have demonstrated an affiliation or sympathy with violent extremist groups professing Islamist motivations and goals (e.g., ISIS, al-Qaeda, Al-Shabaab, Boko Haram) from entering the U.S., but asserting that it enables a de facto ban on all Muslims is inaccurate. Most major religions involve basic, agreed-upon sets of tenets by which their faithful live, and no widely-accepted understanding of Islam encompasses a prohibition on following the laws of any country or advocates the overthrow of government.
In all actuality Obama did in part use this act to target the original countries on the first travel limitations under him and then used as the original ban under trump
How can any racism be adequate reason for banning an enemy that enters the U.S.A. and threatens U.S. Citizen’s National Security ? IS there any common sense in government any more or are #1 “we the people” another victim of a wannabe dictator like bo & hilary !? The facts that the U.S.A. being internally attacked by socialist, commies & muslim enemies is quite apparent ! These attacks to destroy our U.S.A.’s Fundamental Freedom is an act of war that has to be a #1 priority to eliminate all foreign invasion attempts with Military or by civilian power !
